Eye Specialist Definition


An Optometrist is a qualified, professionally trained and licensed health care professional to examine the eyes for visual defects, diagnose problems or impairments, and prescribe corrective lens, low vision care, vision therapy or provide other types of treatment.

Optometrists also may participate pre and post-operative eye care.


An Ophthalmologist is a physician ( MD , MS or DO ) who specializes in the medical and surgical care of the eyes and in the prevention of eye disease and injury.


Opticians are an important part of our eye care system. They are trained technician in the designing, verifying and fitting of the eyewear ( spectacle ) and other vision correcting devices.

Mostly they use prescription written by Optometrist or an Ophthalmologist to fit and sell eyeglasses.
